After finishing his studies at RAU (B.Optom) in 1999, Bernard Schoeman spent a year working as an optometrist in Port Elizabeth before leaving for Afghanistan. He spent 8 years there setting up and managing eye hospitals in Kandahar and Mazar. His family returned with him to South Africa two years ago.
He is married to Veline and they have two sons, Ruven and Evan
